Pumpkin Roll is spongy, light, spicy pumpkin cake with cream cheese filling just barely dusted with powered sugar. The perfect blend of that warm-inside feeling you get from pumpkin in a cool, refreshing snack or eat the whole thing for breakfast (it has been done!). $12

Brioche redolent of butter and eggs is impossibly delicious toasted with honey butter and will literally elevate your mood as french toast - no Prozac necessary. $8

Baguettes are crunchy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Rip it apart at the table instead of slicing it (that's what the French do) and totally freak out your family! $5 for 2

Dinner Rolls are fluffy, but with some substance - sort of like a John Grisham novel. They are the perfect accompaniment to any meal. Microwave them the next morning with butter and cinnamon - Scrumptious! $4 for 12

Did you know that there was a time when most farms had their own bread ovens, and farmers would rotate the task of firing up the oven for everyone in the neighborhood to bake their bread? When the bread baking was done, the farm wives came laden with gratins, cakes, and tarts and put them in the oven to bake in the residual heat.

Ovens still exist on some farms, but are put to use infrequently, brought back to life mostly on special occasions. Then, following the farm tradition, bread is baked first and other dishes afterward.

For me, other dishes are unnecessary.
